Janet Stone McGuigan

Janet Stone McGuigan is a dedicated community leader whose service to Greenwich spans more than two decades across municipal government, education, environmental stewardship and nonprofit engagement.

Most recently, Janet served on the Greenwich Board of Selectmen (2021–2025), where she co-chaired the Greenwich Sustainability Committee and acted as liaison to the Energy Management Advisory Committee, Harbor Management Commission, Commission on Aging, Old Greenwich School Building Committee and Julian Curtiss School Building Committee. She also served as an ex-officio advisor to the Greenwich Point Conservancy.

Her commitment to community organizations includes roles as Advisory Board member of The Friends of Binney Park (2021–present), River House Adult Day Center (2025–present), and Board Member of Greenwich Green & Clean (2021–present), Barbara’s House (formerly Community Centers, Inc.) (2019–present) member of the League of Women Voters of Greenwich (2018-present) and member of the Junior League of Greenwich (2008-present). Janet previously represented District 6 on the RTM (2019–2021) and spent many years supporting Greenwich Public Schools through various leadership roles and liaison positions to both the Town’s School Readiness Council and the Greenwich United Way’s Community Planning Council.

Professionally, Janet has worked internationally and nationally on policy, sustainability, and dispute resolution. She served as an intern and consultant to the European Commission and held senior associate positions at both the Resolve Center for Dispute Resolution and Resources for the Future.

Janet holds dual degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Economics from Cornell University, and a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government. 

A longtime resident of Greenwich, Janet lives in Old Greenwich with her husband, Peter, a GHS alumnus raised in Riverside. They have two adult sons, both graduates of Greenwich High School.
